Roman Polák is a renowned Slovak theatre and film director, actor, and dramaturg, known for his influential work across Central Europe. A graduate of VŠMU in Bratislava, he has directed over a hundred productions, ranging from Chekhov to modern Slovak dramas, and served as artistic director of both the State Theatre Košice and the Slovak National Theatre Drama.

As an actor, Polák has appeared in acclaimed films and series such as Rédl, The Man with Hare Ears, and Her Body. His directorial film credits include Génius jednej noci and Nesmrtelní.

Widely respected for his psychological depth and modern interpretations, he’s received multiple awards including the DOSKY and the Crystal Wing. Polák’s work is marked by precision, intellect, and a profound sensitivity to character and text.
